Edward Road Baptist Church derives its name from the very visible practice of believers’ baptism. Baptism involves the total immersion of a person into water in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit on their own profession of faith. As Baptists we do not baptise infants but only those who are of an age to make a clear declaration of their own free will. By means of baptism, a person declares their desire to turn from a life without God to one which is lived for God through Jesus Christ. Christian faith is not something that anybody can choose for anyone other than themselves.
At Edward Road, we do not baptise infants because we believe that the decision to be a disciple of Jesus is one that can only properly be made at a later stage of spiritual development. However we do welcome children into the community by means of a special service known as ‘Infant Presentation’ or ‘the blessing of children and the dedication of parents’.
In keeping with the attitude and actions of Jesus, Edward Road Baptist Church welcomes children. It takes seriously his invitation, ‘Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me’ (Matthew 18:5). To receive a child in his name, is to do honour to Jesus and to receive his grace through the child. It could be said that how we treat children is a sign of our true devotion to Jesus.
If you need to talk to us about a funeral, please contact admin@erbc.org.uk
We recognise the importance of funerals as a vital act of both personal and corporate grief.
The cost of holding a funeral at Edward Road is £200. An additional minister’s fee will also be charged at the national standard rate (this was £199 in 2020). Both the Church fee and Ministers’ fees may be waived for church members on the church roll – please ask the minister if you believe that this might apply.
The Hall can be hired following the service for refreshments or for a reception. Please call the Church or email for more information.
