This sample activity is for a high school physics lesson on PS3.B: Conservation of Energy and Energy Transfer. Students will calculate changes in energy of different components in a variable system.
Have your students access the Energy Transfer Simulator Software and complete the activities within. This software will act as a virtual lab where students can observe various simulated energy transfer devices working to better their understanding of how energy is converted into different forms.
Next, using clickers to poll results, quiz the students on conceptual questions about energy transformations to determine need for further instruction on the topic.
For a more summative assessment of their understanding have them explain what energy is in their own words and how a device that converts one form of energy into another works. They can use a word processor of their choice and submit their papers to your google classroom to make collection easy.
