Mrs. T. Mercy Annapoorani was the first EduClown and has extensive experience in community development and communication across her career, which helped formulate the Edu-Clowns’ technique.
''An alternative strategy in communication for development.''
A live cultural campaign organised by infected and affected people. Local people use drama, songs, drumming, puppetry, and other folk arts; Builds critical consciousness and mobilises people for action; a channel to educate and motivate people for their own dynamic growth.
EduClowns are actively on the move across Tamil Nadu, taking to the streets to confront the pressing crises of climate change, global health, and the plastic menace. We are currently mobilizing our network of non-professional actors, drawn directly from communities affected by tuberculosis, diabetes, and HIV/AIDS, to make taboo topics feel approachable. Our performers use dynamic storytelling to bring complex social and health issues into everyday community conversations.
