There are four guiding principles for the scenarios and suggestions in this guide.
Respect your student’s needs, opinions, feelings, culture, religion, sexuality and gender. Respect that they trust you to share something personal.
Any actions done should seek to minimise harm/risk to the students.
It is important to always seek Consent from each student regarding decisions that could potentially out or harm them.
Prioritize the student’s wants and needs instead of making decisions on their behalf. Recognise that each student has unique needs, and decisions should be made based on their individual needs rather than assumptions.
This guide was put together by 21 Singapore educators, supported by @queerfriendlychers, Inter-University LGBT Network, and My Queer Story SG, with stories and suggestions from the wider community.
