Artist statement
My artworks serve as representation of myself and who I identify as. I tend to have myself be the focal point of an art piece, and if not myself then special objects or imaginative imagery. My goal with my artwork is to utilize cool and warm colors to create a relaxing and calm atmosphere when viewers look at my works. My art style changes according to what I am painting, such as how in my self-portraits my paint strokes are smooth compared to my landscape painting. I choose to not stick to only one medium either, I have done printmaking, acrylic painting, gouache, watercolor painting and paper collage. With how experimental I am in my artworks; I want to encourage other to feel inspired to go outside of their comfort zones and try a new medium. I am currently looking into using clay; however I haven't had the chance to gather my own supplies just yet. Regardless, I am an experimental artist, I want to try out a large range of mediums before I settle on one that feels the best for me.
It can often times be difficult to bring life into my paintings when I'm dealing with issues in my life, but as I've progressed as an artist's I've noticed that there's a lot of positive energy radiating from my paintings... something I didn't notice before. I feel as though the emotions we have will show up in our art whether intentional or not. And often that can work in our favor. There's a kind of beauty in art that has grief behind it, which is something I want to destigmatize.
Another critical element in my work is the use of nature such as fruit, leaves, and flowers. I deeply enjoy nature, being a person who often goes into the woods and draw sketches of animals. I see this interest has made its way into my artworks, something I have a lot of pride in.
