O*Net-SOC Autocoder This resource answers two questions: What Job title matches my skills? and What duties are associated with a Job Title? Useful for those who need a pointer in the right direction. One caveat: Job titles are often set by HR personnel unfamiliar with the job duties so job titles and tasks are not consistent from company to company.
Jobscan.co This resource compares your resume against a job description, looking for matches in key words. Useful for honing your resume with the same key words a company uses to "Get Past Resume Robots" as the website promises. Once a public / anonymous resource, it now requires a membership to match multiple jobs against resumes. Members get 5 free scans per month or pay around $50/month for the service as of this writing. These sites are used to find salary information for jobs by title either nationally, or narrowed down to metropolitan areas.
Bureau of Labor Statistics: Difficult to navigate, but the most official source of wages by job and/or region.
SimplyHired: Easy to use Job Search site
Glassdoor: A Job Search site that includes Company Reviews and Salary information. Note: Glassdoor merged into Indeed under a parent company, Recruit Holdings July 1, 2026.
Indeed: Another easy Job Search site
Payscale: provides Salary Guides and reports
Other than the BLS government site, sources depend on self-reporting by employees or by surveys.
