A total of 36 students ranging from grades 5-11 participated in this camp, and did not need any prior experience in essay writing. Content covered included types of essays, essay structure, and citing sources. Economics and war seminars were also taught, which provided content for students to write about in their essays.

Group one students were given a minimum word count of 610 for their final essay. They got to choose between five topics about either economics or war, and got an hour and a half of class time to work on their assignment.
