Our pupils’ failure to cope with a listening task or to memorize new words might be the result of a lack of learning strategies. In the seminar we will expand our knowledge of effective strategies for learning a foreign language. We will also talk about how to teach these strategies to our pupils so that they become more successful English-language learners.

QR-CODES AS AN EFFECTIVE WAY TO TEACH FOREIGN LANGUAGES

My direct developments are related to the widespread introduction of QR-coding technology in the educational process. The first experience of using the technology was the release of three manuals. The next stage of the introduction of QR-technology in the educational process is the development and production of educational cards on the topics "Food" and "Clothing. Weather. Color". In support of the educational and methodological simulator for teaching reading in English and manuals, a website was developed www.enread.by, which contains a set of training resources, test tasks, and interactive support materials that promote learning in English. The main feature of the resource is the presence of a plug-in for visually impaired children. The use of authentic materials by foreign language teachers allowed us to create a fundamentally new learning environment that allows us to simultaneously simulate speech dialogue, virtually represent the audio or video environment of the language and culture being studied, and monitor the development of language material.

Lessons with incorporated elements of critical thinking have great potential for improving language skills of English learners and developing their 21st century success skills. To accomplish these goals, we will show a working model that helps ELT teachers understand the role of critical thinking in the context of their lesson aims, classroom practice, and materials design. In the workshop we will analyze students’ books for the presence of a critical thinking component and answer the question whether it is possible to develop critical thinking in low-level students.

DEALING WITH COVID-RELATED STRESS

INTEGRATING MEDIA LITERACY SKILLS INTO THE EFL CLASSROOM

The session will review the possible ways of incorporating Media Literacy into EFL Lesson Planning.

The attendees will evaluate media, analyse advertisements and work out tips on creating positive digital footprint.

At the end of the workshop we will discuss the possible use of media literacy in the participants' EFL classes and reflect their role as educators in the formation of media literacy skills.
