As an early childhood educator, I strongly believe that we should limit and monitor the use of technology in young children. As the Early Learning and Educational Technology Policy Brief states, “For children under the age of 2, technology use in early learning settings is discouraged” (U.S. Department of Education, p.11).
However, I do believe technology has plenty of benefits for older children. Still, these benefits will only be obtained if the use of technology is limited, monitored and developmentally appropriate. According to the National Association for the Education of Young Children (2012), “If technology is used, it must be in the context of conversation and interactions with an adult” (p.1)
Finally, we can use technology to facilitate the learning of other adults about this critical period of life which is early childhood.
