Assignments ~ revised Dec. 19

All assignments must be uploaded on myCourses unless otherwise agreed by the student and the instructor.

  1. Journaling / Blogging (20%)
    • The EDPT 204 blog is different than the EDPT 200 blog. We will share blogs about the course readings and resources. I'm looking for 'synthesis' and the 'big' ideas not a class summary like in EDPT 200 course. Give your blog posts a catchy or revealing title and keep them to 3-4 paragraphs ~ not longer. Be sure to include a comment on the progress of your weekly online course (the first 7 weeks) and the media lab work (the last 7 weeks)
    • Sometimes your post may also include a self-reflection component:
      • What did you learn this week? How did you learn it? What questions remain unclear? etc.
    • The blog post must be completed before the following class. Be sure to #TAG the posts (i.e. weekly topic).
  2. Online Mini course (Launchpad) (25%)
  3. Participation in class discussions and activities (20%)
    • Each week you must prepare for class by reading the assigned texts, commenting on @Perusall and taking part in small group discussions and activities. (15%)
    • You will be responsible for leading the discussion around the media labs once during the semester (weeks 7 - 12). You must also complete the weekly lab activities.
    • You must post to Twitter (3 to 5 weekly tweets using #edpt204 as the course hashtag; starting in class 1). (5%)
  4. Mini Presentation (15% ~ classes 6 to 12). We will use this evaluation rubric during the presentation to be filled by everyone in the class.
    • Students will review one of the following mass media covered in the Media Essentials online mini course --> books, newspapers, magazines, radio & music, film, TV, comic books, advertising, and social media.
    • What We Have Learned Presentation must use the creation/design principals learned/discussed in class. Students will present be using @Peardeck to interact with the class and must include links to materials (posters, infographic, pictures, podcast, video, Adobe Page etc.) created by students. (5%)
    • You may use any tools learned in class as well any of the following tools shared by Dr. Torrey Trust's grad students
  5. Digital Learning Portfolio (20%)
    • This portfolio will showcase everything you have created for the class from weeks 2 to 12. (20%)
    • Media materials created for Mini-presentation credited in mini presentation mark
    • Showcase in class 13
    • Use Wix (digital portfolio template) or Weebly or Google Sites or Word Press

Please make every effort to attend ALL classes. 1 or 2 bonus points will be awarded at the end of the course for students with perfect attendance.
