Professor Emmanuella Doussis
UNESCO Chairholder on Climate Diplomacy

I am a Professor of International Institutions at the Department of Political Science and Public Administration of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Director of the Institute of European Integration and Policy and UNESCO Chairholder on Climate Diplomacy. I have studied political science and law at the University of Athens and at the Sorbonne in Paris (Paris I). After a first Master’s in Public International Law, Ι completed a second one in Environmental Law and a PhD in International Law. I have been a visiting professor at the Universities of Bourgogne, Grenoble-Alpes and Aix-Marseille, and a visiting fellow at the University of Geneva and the European University Institute in Florence. I was also a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at UC Berkeley in 2022. I was a member of the ILA Committee on the role of international law in sustainable management of natural resources and the Greek National Committee for Adaptation on Climate Change. I am currently a Senior Policy Advisor at ELIAMEP. I have published alone or in collaboration with other authors ten books and several articles in peer-reviewed international journals. I have coordinated/participated in research and educational projects funded by the EU or other authorities and, currently, I am the coordinator of the Jean Monnet Module on EU Climate Policy and Diplomacy in Southeast Europe. My research interests include international and European environmental policy & law, the role of international institutions in sustainable development, climate diplomacy, including EU climate diplomacy, and the impact of climate change on human mobility. I was awarded the Natural Resources Legal Specialist 2021 Award by the Centre for International Sustainable Law (CISDL). Since 2022 I have been a Member of the Board of Governors of the CISDL.
