I am a Professor of International Institutions at the Department of Political Science and Public Administration of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Director of the postgraduate program on Southeast European Studies: Politics, History and Economics, Director of the Institute of European Integration and Policy and UNESCO Chairholder on Climate Diplomacy. I have studied political science and law at the University of Athens and at the Sorbonne in Paris (Paris I). After a first Master’s in Public International Law, Ι completed a second one in Environmental Law and a PhD in International Law. I have been a visiting professor at the Universities of Bourgogne, Grenoble-Alpes and Aix-Marseille, and a visiting fellow at the University of Geneva and the European University Institute in Florence. I was also a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at UC Berkeley in 2022. I was a member of the ILA Committee on the role of international law in sustainable management of natural resources and the Greek National Committee for Adaptation on Climate Change. I am currently a Senior Policy Advisor at ELIAMEP and Head of its Climate and Sustainability Programme. I have published alone or in collaboration with other authors ten books and several articles in peer-reviewed international journals. I have coordinated/participated in research and educational projects funded by the EU or other authorities and, currently, I am the coordinator of the Jean Monnet Module on EU Climate Policy and Diplomacy in Southeast Europe. My research interests include international and European environmental policy & law, the role of international institutions in sustainable development, climate diplomacy, including EU climate diplomacy, and the impact of climate change on human mobility. I was awarded the Natural Resources Legal Specialist 2021 Award by the Centre for International Sustainable Law (CISDL). Since 2022 I have been a Member of the Board of Governors of the CISDL.
