Esperanza: El Resultado de Tragedia
This artifact is a paper written for a class I took while studying abroad in Spain, “Literatura Española del Siglo XX” (Spanish Literature of the 20th century). In this class, I learned about the history of literature in Spain and many of the popular artists/writers at the time. This was one of the papers in this class that I found most interesting to write. This is because I was writing about a specific phrase by an author that was difficult to dissect. The phrase was “the result of tragedy is hope”. When I read this phrase, I was confused because most people wouldn’t think of hope when they hear the word tragedy. This is the reason I chose this topic for my paper. I wanted to understand the full meaning of it. When writing this, I actually started realizing things that were important in my personal life that applied to this phrase. One of which is related to my religion, christianity, which I wrote about in the essay. I have always loved being able to apply the things I learn about to my personal life, so that is why this was one of my favorite essays I wrote while in Spain. I believe a key part of this assignment that I can apply to my future career is the ability to apply information. I think this is important in healthcare because I will need to apply research to what I am doing, and I think I will also use this with patients in the way I will need to relay information. For example, it might be easier for patients and families of patients to hear information if it is explained in terms that they relate to.
Aspectos Teológicos de San Manuel Bueno, Mártir
This artifact is a paper written for a class I took while studying abroad in Spain, “Literatura Española del Siglo XX” (Spanish Literature of the 20th century). We read many different types of literature in this class and learned how to dissect their meanings and symbolism. This particular assignment was about the novel San Manuel Bueno, Mártir. In this novel, there are many uses of symbolism. I enjoyed writing this essay because I was able to use the symbolism to many areas of my own life, and in particular, religion. One challenge about this was reading a novel in Spanish. I had never had to read a full book in Spanish before this class, so this was tough for me, but it definitely helped me increase my spanish vocabulary and literacy skills. I want to incorporate my Spanish into my future career, and I know that writing this paper has helped me become more confident in writing and reading in Spanish. Taking this class in general also helped me improve my Spanish speaking skills, as we had a debate after every piece of literature we read.
