Stars in the Future Skies
Stars in the Future Skies is a series of four books, Journeys to Camelot: Merlin Sails the Seas of Time, The Grail Quest and the Kingdom of the Unicorns, Oak, Leather, and Fire, and Merlin's Shaman Odysseys. Together, the books tell a story of the maturation of five clever but otherwise fairly normal members of one extended family (brothers, a sister, and two cousins) who experience life-changing events. By the time we get to book four, they have been transformed from phone-addicted kids into shamans.
Becoming a shaman is an incredible life achievement. It is usually only accomplished through years of mentorship and training. However, the intensity of the lives of the twenty-first-century kids since coming to the sixth century and their experience of the Grail have fast-tracked them into maturity.
Psychologically, emotionally, and spiritually, they have been transformed. Psychologically, their experiences have given them power to take control of their own lives. Emotionally, they learned to affirm and trust their dedication to transcendent values. Spiritually, they now understand their relationship to all living things, to Being itself, and their purpose in life. Their purpose is that of the shaman--healing.
In Book IV, Merlin, their mentor, bears the burden of introducing them to their new selves, teaching them their power as shamans and their new responsibilities as healers, whether physically, psychologically, or intellectually, and whether the healing is of people, plants and animals, or Mother Earth.
If and when they return to the twenty-first century, they will be transformed, have a new being, and see the world through fresh eyes. They will feel the suffering in and of the world and the responsibility they now have to heal. As is said, "To enchieve the Grail is to be changed forever."
