Welcome to our class! Our focus this semester will be on the development of activities and tools to support learning goals for K-16 students. On this website you'll find everything you need to complete the tasks for the semester. As we move on with each unit, please make sure to watch all videos and read all text before attempting each task. If you normally skim long passages of text, this is not the semester to do that. Should you have questions along the way please don't hesitate to email me.
For our first unit, we will work on "setting up" for this course.
Grade value: 1% of total grade (huge, I know - but it's still important)
Go to our first Flipgrid question: "Who am I and why am I taking EDIT 2000e?" and record a response.
You'll need a computer with a webcam or a mobile device with the free Flipgrid app in order to record.
Please choose "Join with Microsoft" and use your UGA email and password to login.
If you're using a mobile device, enter this code when prompted: edit2000e
Take a few minutes to view your classmates' responses using the same link. Feel free to 'like' or add a friendly comment on them. :)
Grade value: 1% of total grade

Grade value: 3% of total grade
You'll need a space to organize all of your work. We're going to use Google Sites to create a portfolio for you to keep all of your work. This is also how I will access your work in order to grade it.
Important note - you can't edit a Google Site unless you are using Google Chrome, Firefox, or Safari as your browser. But honestly, if you're not using one of these two browsers already - it's time for an upgrade (your life will be better for it, I promise). If you do try to create/edit a site using Explorer, you'll be sent to the "classic" version of Google Sites and none of my instructions will make any sense.
You likely already have a Google account. If not - please go to google.com and set one up (you'll need it for several things this semester). Once you're set up with a Google account, go to http://sites.google.com/new to create your site.
Important note - if you like to tinker with technology to figure it out, the instructions that follow should be sufficient for you to complete this task. If you prefer a tutorial, click here for an excellent overview on how to get started with Google Sites (then follow the instructions below).
Name your site in the top left corner.
Once you've named your site, create 5 pages: About, Facilitate, Collaborate, Create, Design
Most of your pages will be blank for the time being. On your About page, include a photo of yourself and a brief biography that's about 1-2 paragraphs long. Feel free to include any fun facts about you. :) You can use the first template from the "Layouts" menu on the right. (Click HERE to see where to find it.)
Click the "Share with others" icon → Click "change" below Links → Check if your 'published site' is "Public". (Click HERE to see where to find it.)
Click the "Publish" button in the top right corner when you are finished. Google Sites will save all of your work - but it won't be viewable by me until you click the Publish button. If you'd like to see your website like others will see it, click the small arrow on the right side of the Publish button and choose "View published site". This will allow you to see what your actual website address is, too.
Post your contact info and the new portfolio address to this form. Please note - your portfolio address will be similar to: https://sites.google.com/view/whateveryounamedyoursite
Grade value: priceless! (It would be difficult to complete this course without the textbook, we use a large portion of it for course tasks.)
Textbook: Gonzalez, J. (2021). Teachers Guide to Technology 2021. Cult of Pedagogy.
Note that this is a digital textbook (- there are no hard copies.) Our textbook is actually a resource guide. We’ll use a good bit of it – but ideally, it will be something you’re able to use after this semester.
The publisher has provided us with a discount code on the book, but it’s important that you follow the directions in order to pay the discounted price of $15 (instead of $25). I have no way to access your account or obtain a refund for you – so please make sure you are using the coupon code correctly and that you are not planning to drop the course. The directions for purchasing and downloading your textbook are HERE. (The resource you want is called “The Teachers Guide to Tech 2021”). The coupon code is: UGAW215
** If for some reason you weren't able to apply the coupon code, reach out to the publisher directly at support@cultofpedagogy.com. Let them know that you're taking EDIT2000 at UGA and the coupon code you received was UGAW215, and they may be able to issue a partial refund.
That's it for Unit 1! You are now officially ready to start this course. :) Please make sure to email me if you have questions or concerns at any point in these tasks. Please remember that this unit is due no later than Sunday, January 31st at midnight. No need to email me once you're finished.
