Job applications are not difficult to fill out, as long as you have the information that you need. There are some important tips to remember when filling out these applications. Most importantly, make sure you read the directions first! Know what the application is asking, and answer each question completely, in complete sentences. Also make sure you research the employer so you know exactly what kind of work you are applying for, how the company operates and what its policies are, etc.
Some applications are completed online while others are hand-written. Either way, grammar, spelling, and punctuation are critical. The quality of your application tells the employer about your attention to detail and your ability to complete tasks correctly; a poor or incomplete application doesn't send the right message. Below are some things to think about.
Read the form thoroughly so that you put relevant information in appropriate sections
Follow the instructions accurately (ink color, number of pages, etc...)
Do your research
Starting pay, specific position, skills required, etc...
Put a positive emphasis on your experiences
Keep a copy of your form so that you can use it to prepare for an interview or complete other applications
Leave any sections blank or skip boxes
Write illegibly or cross things out
Leave gaps in your employment/study record
Misspell words or use poor grammar
Lie about anything on the application
Use unprofessional contact information (starbuck4lyfe@gmail.com won't work)
Use friends and family as references
Or better yet, what isn't wrong with it? Take a look and see what all needs to be fixed in this example.
