I live an un/non-retired life on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. I am loosely attached (adjunct Prof) to the Griffith Institute for Educational Research. I have a small blog which I use intermittenlty to share odd bibs and bobs and the occasional rant.
EdExEd is the brand/label I use an umbrella term from my current thinking: Edges, where all the interesting stuff happens; Education, something the whole world is engaged in/with; and Exponentials, a gesture to the rate of change of ways things get done.
I am still using what was the blue tweetie bird thing and is now the capital X. I also have been mulling what Mastodon is about. And now, Bluesky.
Why cj? A long time ago when I was at Deakin U the Internet arrived. We had the option then of choosing our username and being one who was not a great typist I opted for cb. That user name was taken so I opted for cj and it was available and also cj13, a gesture to a favourite surf beach in Victoria ever since.
I like to make connections, join what appear to be disconnected dots. I am drawn to looking for patterns. It's hard to shake our evolutionary roots.
My current favourite quote is from E. O. Wilson:
the source of human challenges in the 21st century that ‘we have palaeolithic emotions; medieval institutions; and god-like technology’
My long standing curiosity is concerned with the delegation of work to machines. The delegation underpins a question: why do we teach kids to do things that machines are good at? This is not a believe in machines line. When delegation occurs you have to ask what are the complementary skills, knowledge needed by the machine user: from washing machines to generative AI.
I'm interested in too many things. I maintain a digital Zettelkasten (in DEVONthink) to help me recall stuff and make connections between people, ideas and phenomena.
Working with good people is always a joy.
