Playful and LEGO methods for migrant intercultural communication and integration.
Support and development of educational initiatives to promote Finno-Ugric cultures.
Professional development and personal growth of educators and other professionals.
We are the Educational Initiatives Center ry for different groups of people living in Finland, who can use Russian, English or one of Finno-Ugric languages.
Our mission is to find and develop educational initiatives for the social well-being of the different groups in Finnish society.
Our members are teachers, psychologists, students, job seekers, pensioners, Finno-Ugric activists and other volunteers. Some of us are migrants in Finland, others are Finnish citizens by birth.
Our goals:
generating and supporting educational initiatives to improve the skills of immigrants in Finland who already have a pedagogical or other social education and work experience before moving and who can speak English, or Russian, or one of the Finno-Ugric languages (Finnish, Estonian, Karelian, Udmurt, Komi, Mari, etc.);
supporting educational initiatives for better integration of immigrant children and youth in Finland.
The first group for whom we work are migrants in Finland who had a teachers' or other social profession before moving: teachers, educators, social workers, coaches, psychologists, nurses, etc. Many of us were educators in different countries (for example, we had education and work experience in Russian in the USSR or in the republics after its collapse: Udmurtia, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, etc.), and then moved to Finland. Therefore, we know how to go through the paths of professional recognition of foreigners in Finland.
We help educators go through the path of professional adaptation in a new country, mastering pedagogical Finnish and getting a job in the field of education in Finland.
Join us if you want to become a teacher in Finland or if you are ready to help newly arrived migrants get a job in the field of education!
We also invite Russian-speaking educators and other professionals who want to have professional development and personal growth in Finland as well as get mental support and reflection in Russian to become our members!
The second group for whom we work are students in Helsinki and in Kymenlaakso some of whom has intolerant attitudes towards “others” and give rise to intercultural conflicts or participate in bullying of migrant students, etc.
We rely on our experience as Finno-Ugric activists in Finland, who are interested in the cultures of these peoples and speak languages such as Finnish or Karelian, Estonian or Sami, Udmurt or Komi, Mari or Mordovian, Khanty or Mansi, etc.
Our experience shows the great effectiveness of using Finno-Ugric cultures to develop in children and youth the values of cultural diversity and the values of interaction with dissimilar people
We invite youth, adults, pensioners who know or are studying Finno-Ugric languages and want to help introduce Finnish children and teenagers to Finno-Ugric cultures to become our members!
The third group for whom we work are migrants who moved to Finland recently or many years ago and who want to be more integrated into Finnish society, who want to find new friends and activities in the new country.
We invite students, professionals, job seekers, volunteers who want to learn how the latest methods help migrants integrate in Finland or who want to better integrate into Finnish society to become our members!
We are ready to discuss and support in the English, Finnish or Russian languages your educational initiatives about better integration of the migrants in Finland and about familiarizing local children, teenagers and others with Finno-Ugric cultures and languages.
We are ready to know and develop in the Russian language your educational initiatives for teachers, educators, helping specialists who want to get involved in helping both migrants and Finno-Ugric people in the capital region of Finland (Helsinki, Vantaa, Espoo, etc.).

We began using the LEGO® Serious Play® methodology and tools to facilitate communication between migrants and local communities, supporting intercultural adaptation and the integration of migrants into new societies through the project “It’s Time to Talk.”
We now regularly organise LEGO® Serious Play® sessions, delivered upon request, for teenagers and young people in various NGOs across Finland on the following topics:
“I Am Valuable and Important to Myself and to the World”
“Creating a Team Where Everyone Matters”
“Developing a Strategy for a Youth Organisation”
“Planning the Development of a Public Organisation”
“Promoting Inclusiveness in a Youth Organisation”
We have also begun developing a project for seniors that explores how the LEGO® Serious Play® methodology can support healthy, active, and meaningful ageing in the context of Society 5.0.
For many years, the board members of the Educational Initiatives Center ry have had positive experience in fostering tolerance among children and young people in Finland through the use of various elements of Finno-Ugric culture.
We have collaborated with a number of organisations, including the educational and cultural centre Ugrin Paikka (Finno-Ugric Point) in Sippola, Kouvola; the M.A. Castrén Society (M.A. Castrénin Seura) in Helsinki; Suomi-Venäjä Seura (the Finland-Russia Society) in Lappeenranta, Kouvola, Helsinki, and Tampere. These organisations have organised the Days of the Finno-Ugric Peoples of Finland, Sugrifests, and other cultural events.
We are currently developing the project “Finno-Ugric Fairy Tales Through the Voices of Different People,” which aims to create an online intergenerational community - bringing together youth, adults, and seniors - interested in Finno-Ugric cultures and willing to participate in the “Finno-Ugric Fairy Tales” podcast. And also for people interested in learning podcasting skills.
We help educators in Helsinki and other places in the Capital region, and in Kymenlaakso region to solve problems with migrant students in their adaptation to the educational environment, as well as develop tolerance and intercultural communicative competencies of all students in the school grops. We are currently focusing on helping primary school teachers to integrate Russian-speaking students.
We regularly organise online mentoring circles aimed at capacity-building for young migrants with backgrounds in education or social work, with a focus on developing their professional competences, employability, and integration into the Finnish labour market.
We organise educational trips, school visits, and training programmes in Finland for educators and students from different countries.
Our first post-COVID-19 educational trip was organised jointly with our partner in March 2023 for outstanding teachers from Kazakhstan. The participants were winners of a professional teachers’ competition in the city of Astana. During the visit, the Kazakhstani teachers and our team observed lessons and educational practices in schools in Helsinki, Kerava, Tampere, and Jyväskylä.
Following this, a group of educators from Kazakhstan - including school principals, teachers, and administrative staff - visited four schools and two educational institutions in December 2024. The programme included schools and a lyceum in Espoo, Vantaa, and Helsinki.
In March 2025, a group of library professionals from Kazakhstan visited several libraries in the Helsinki capital region to explore Finnish library services and practices.
If you would like to be part of a community who helps immigrants to integrate into Finnish society, come to our fun and inspiring events!
We organise various meeting and events in Finland capital region for cteative people who can speak in English, Russian, Finnish and other Finno-Ugric languages.
