Peter Vajda

Peter joined Facebook in 2014 as Research Scientist. Currently, he is managing the Mobile Vision team on efficient computer vision algorithms for mobile devices. Before joining Facebook, he was Visiting Assistant Professor in Stanford University, Stanford, USA, working on personalized multimedia system and mobile visual search. He completed his Ph.D. with Prof. Touradj Ebrahimi at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédéral de Lausanne (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland, 2012.

Kurt Keutzer

Kurt received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from Indiana University in 1984 and then joined the research division of AT&T Bell Laboratories. In 1991 he joined Synopsys, Inc. where he ultimately became Chief Technical Officer and Senior Vice-President of Research. In 1998 Kurt became Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of California at Berkeley. Kurt’s research group is currently focused on using parallelism to accelerate the training and deployment of Deep Neural Networks for applications in computer vision, speech recognition, multi-media analysis, and computational finance. Kurt has published six books, over 250 refereed articles, and is among the most highly cited authors in Hardware and Design Automation.

Fernando De la Torre

Fernando received Ph. D degrees in Electronic Engineering from La Salle School of Engineering at Ramon Llull University, Barcelona, Spain in 2002. In 1997 and 2000, he became Assistant and Associate Professor in the Department of Communications and Signal Theory in Enginyeria La Salle. In 2003, he joined the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University as Research Associate Professor. His research interests are in the fields of Computer Vision and Machine Learning. In 2017, he joined Facebook as Research Scientist Manager, working on efficient human sensing on mobile devices.

Ramesh Sarukkai

Head of Mapping & Perception at Lyft

Dr. Ramesh Sarukkai currently heads up the Mapping & Perception teams at Lyft. Prior to that he was a Director of Engineering at Facebook and Google/YouTube where he led a number of platform & video products initiatives including machine learning teams for video analysis/monetization and identity/monetization risk. He has given a number of talks/keynotes/panelist and organized workshops/panels at a major conference including the W3C WWW Conferences, ACM Multimedia conferences etc., and published/presented papers at leading journals/conferences (IEEE Trans PAMI/Speech & Audio/Neural Networks, Neural Computation-MIT Press, ACM Multimedia, WWW, ICCV etc.) in addition to authoring a book entitled “Foundations of Web Technology” (Kluwer/Springer). He also holds over 75 patents (issued or pending) and graduated with a PhD in computer science from the University of Rochester in machine learning, computer vision and speech technologies.
