Information for before your visit and during your visit.
Get your students excited about their upcoming visit by going to our website and showing them many of the cool projects from the Conservation Science teams. Visit the Alliance's main site and watch the video on the home page to get to know the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance a little better!
Introduce what module you reserved and why you made that choice specifically for them. Check out the Pre-Lesson Literature Dives for background information on their module and to get students familiar with reading scientific papers.
Remind them this is a very unique opportunity that is only open to a limited number of students every year. They are representatives of their school, classmates, and community! Community Engagement instructors are excited to work with them, and we hope that they are equally excited to work with us.
The weather at the Safari Park can be hotter or colder than expected depending on the season. Please have students dress accordingly. Closed-toed shoes are required. Comfortable shoes for walking, sunscreen, hats, and refillable water bottles are all highly encouraged. Water bottles can be refilled for free at any of our restaurants or food stands. For cooler weather dress in layers and bring an umbrella in case of rain showers.
Set up the expectations with the students. It is mandatory that chaperones remain with their groups at all times while visiting the Safari Park. Our facility provides a unique opportunity and our expectations of our visitors are to be courteous and respectful in all interactions with other guests, employees and wildlife. We are notified if groups are not following proper etiquette while on grounds. Please make sure EVERYONE in your group understands that their behavior could result in your school losing access to our facility.

The Conservation Science team is housed on grounds at the Beckman Center at the Safari Park. If you are traveling by car or bus, you will need to park in the main parking lot at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Travel to the Safari Park normally. From I-15, exit Via Rancho Pkwy heading east, and then turn right on San Pasqual Valley Rd. Make another right at CA-78/San Pasqual Valley Rd. The Main Entrance to the Safari Park will be on the left side (look for the rhino sign).
To receive FREE PARKING, notify the parking attendant of your school name and proceed to park.
Our parking attendants keep a daily log of schools so this applies to both buses and cars.
For a reminder on the recommended TRANSPORTATION SCHEDULE please see the Before Booking page.
Check-in at Guest Services to pick up your entrance tickets. While you do this, please use this time to have the group use the restroom located at the front entrance. Once you are ready to enter the Park at 9am, have the group head directly to the elevator to meet on the lower level at Locator 10. One of our instructors will meet up with you to walk your group to the Beckman Center. Plan for a 15-minute walk to all meeting locations. Following the directions, make sure the morning group is at Locator 10 by 9:30 AM and the afternoon group by 12:00 PM.
