Code of Conduct

The ECR-VRR represents a primarily student and early career researcher led network of like-minded individuals interested in promoting equality and justice in Earth Sciences. Members come from a variety of diverse backgrounds, and as such every member must abide by explicit rules of conduct to facilitate constructive and respectful discussion. First and foremost, we aim to maintain a harassment free environment. We will not tolerate words or actions that either directly or indirectly cause harm to a member or a particular identity group. Any violation of these rules will result in the organizers taking action including warnings and/or expulsion from the current meeting or the group overall.

By signing up to our mailing list, you agree to abide by the following conduct guidelines:

● Misogynist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, racist or other discriminatory language will not be tolerated.

~ Where you are unsure of appropriate discourse, ask your fellow members for clarification

● In all meetings, whether in person or virtually via video or text communication platforms, you will aim to treat the ideas and identities of all members with respect and fairness

● In being respectful to others, you will aim to listen respectfully, engage critically with ideas, and not attack an individual's ability or intentions in pursuing our objectives

● Put in the work to understand the perspective and struggles of minoritized individuals yourself. Do not expect individuals from minoritized backgrounds to speak on behalf of their (perceived) identity group

● Actively and publicly encourage and support your fellow members, particularly those from a minoritized background.

● Be kind and understanding if another member mispeaks or makes a mistake. Acknowledge that we are all capable of error, and equally capable of learning from our mistakes.

● Share ideas critically and openly, with an aim of improving your colleagues understanding of EDI issues

● During discussions, respect the decision of the chairperson to decide who speaks and for how long.
