HOI AN SUMMER
PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP
HOI AN SUMMER
PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP
10 DAYS TO PLAN, PREPARE, AND TRAVEL LIKE A PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER
Dear friends,
Photography and the language of visual storytelling allow photographers to preserve historical moments, express human emotions, and touch the hearts of viewers, transcending all language barriers.
But is photography simply about pressing the shutter button?
Photography is also the way we observe the world, listen to the rhythm of life around us, and patiently wait for ordinary yet incredibly precious moments. Through the language of images, photographers can tell authentic stories and connect with viewers through emotion and empathy.
BUT WHERE DOES A PASSION FOR PHOTOGRAPHY BEGIN?
HOW CAN YOU NURTURE THAT PASSION?
That is also the spirit behind the creation of the “Summer Photography Program.” More than simply exploring the fundamental skills of photography, the program is also a journey for participants to grow, nurture creativity, build confidence, and learn to see the world with greater depth and understanding.
PROGRAM CONTENT
Check-in at the homestay, introductions, and getting to know each other.
Getting familiar with cameras and photography equipment.
Learning how to protect and take care of camera gear.
Setting personal goals for the course.
Photography is not only about pressing the shutter button, but also about the way you see the world and tell stories through your frames.
On this first day, we will explore what photography really is and train our eyes to recognize details, light, and composition.
You will learn how to use natural light to create expressive portraits and how to adjust shutter speed to creatively freeze or blur movement.
Photography is not only about capturing still moments, but also about conveying emotions, personality, and movement. Today, we will explore two important elements of visual storytelling: portraiture and motion.
From glowing lanterns to quiet streets, every moment carries its own color and emotion. Today, you will learn how to photograph in low-light conditions to tell emotional stories through darkness.
Today is about training your “photographer’s eye” to notice the small details — colors, textures, patterns, and tiny objects that are often overlooked.
Through visual storytelling, you will learn how to observe more carefully in order to discover moments, details, and emotions that can come together to form a complete story.
You will come to understand that every photograph is not only an image, but can also convey meaning, emotion, and the unique perspective of the photographer.
A beautiful photograph can become even more powerful and emotionally impactful when edited with sensitivity and intention. Today, we will explore the art of photo editing and become familiar with editing applications to enhance colors, adjust lighting, and refine images.
By the end of the day, you will see how editing can bring your creative ideas to life!
You will use all the skills you have learned — from camera settings, lighting, and composition to storytelling — to begin a personal photography project.
Each participant will choose a location or the story of a person around Hoi An to document through their own lens. This is an opportunity to explore, connect with people, and tell a story in your own creative way.
The goal is to create a personal photo series that reflects what you see, feel, and experience in Hoi An.
We are approaching the final stage of our photography journey. We believe each of you has captured many meaningful stories throughout the past days of experience.
In a small and cozy space, you will display your favorite works and share the story of your journey through each frame.
Today is the final day of the course — a celebration of your journey! You will complete a photo story and showcase your best photographs in a small exhibition.
Together, we will reflect on everything we have learned and the new perspective through which you now see the world.
Gain a solid understanding of the fundamental skills of photography.
Learn how to tell stories through images: not only “taking beautiful photos,” but also “taking meaningful photos.”
Develop observation skills, patience, creativity, and personal expression.
Explore Hoi An in your own way: local markets, fishing villages, the ancient town, craft villages, everyday life, people, and the stories unfolding around Hoi An.
Develop life skills and independent travel skills.
Build skills in developing personal projects, teamwork, and preparing for the final mini exhibition.
