On January 8, 2025, the Economics Department at Presidency University, Kolkata, successfully hosted a talk by Anindya Banerjee, Head of the Department of Economics at the University of Birmingham. On November 26, 2024, the Deapartment of Economics, Presidency University hosted an interactive session with Prof. Niloy Bose, Director of Graduate Studies at Virginia Tech University, marking the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Presidency University and the Department of Economics, Virginia Tech University.
The Department of Economics at Presidency University organized a talk by Subha Mani, Professor of Economics at Fordham University, on July 24, 2024, at 3:30 PM in the Economics Lecture Theater. During her presentation titled "A Glass Half Full - Experimental Evidence from a Multifaceted Program for Adolescents in India," Professor Mani shared insights from her research on development economics and human capital accumulation. Her work focuses on understanding the pathways through which adolescents can benefit from various programs aimed at enhancing their well-being and future opportunities.
The Department of Economics, Presidency University organised a lecture series on "Philosophy and Politics of Economic Planning and Development" in July 2024. Achin Chakraborty, Professor and Former Director, IDSK delivered lectures on 11th July (at 2.30 PM), 12th July (at 12 noon) and 15th July (at 12 noon). Anjan Chakrabarti, Professor of Economics, University of Calcutta delivered his lecture on 18th July (at 10.20 AM).
In April 2024, the Department of Economics at Presidency University successfully hosted a series of talks on “Career in Analytics.” The series featured Ms. Debaleena Shome, Director of Global Analytics Delivery at FICO, who presented on April 13th, and Mr. Rahul Ranjan Sharma, Associate VP of Consulting at Tiger Analytics, who spoke on April 20th. Both online sessions offered valuable insights and guidance to students interested in pursuing careers in the rapidly evolving field of analytics, covering topics from industry trends to practical applications and career opportunities. The talks were well-received and provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of the analytics landscape.
