EcoNet 2025 is now over and we are so grateful to everyone who came. We hope we have inspired you. Thank you to our partner organisations including our wonderful stall holders, speakers, workshop leaders, hosts and workers who made it happen. This was a free event led by young people for young people in Renfrewshire all about climate action, sustainability and green careers.

Encouraging use of reusable water bottles by providing these as giveaways at the tables . They were all cleaned prior to the event in a commercial dishwasher and filled with tap water.
Washing and reusing plastic boxes which food arrived in, to grow seedlings at an allotment. If you would like some of these for your own windowsills and eco groups, please get in touch. Budgeting carefully to avoid food waste. We only had 1 bag of food waste including fresh fruit peels.
Use of google site for sharing information, planning and reporting; QR codes for feedback to reduce use of paper.
Encouraging stalls to bring sustainable giveaways where possible.
Supporting groups to use active travel and public transport by providing bus routes, walking routes and sample risk assessments and funds for refunding bus fares.

Transport: How did we do?

The group hired an EV van to deliver equipment to the venue on the day.
2 schools and groups came on public bus, one school walked. Well done Gryffe High who had to take two buses there and back!
3 schools had use of minibuses, reducing the number of journeys which had to be made.
Of the other participants, a few individuals used train, most used buses, and a few got lifts.
The workers used, in no particular order, a mixture of cars / vans (including EVs), train, bus and walking from their usual place of work to the venue.

Waste: How did we do?

The food was mostly used up, the amounts were almost right. A couple of boxes of left overs were passed on to groups to use later on. The extra fruit was given to the staff at the centre who appreciated it. We counted the waste afterwards and took away items that could be recycled.
1 bag of food waste in total which was removed and went into a food waste bin.
2 bin bags of general waste (including soft plastic bags from tee-shirts) which will be removed by the centre for incineration.
0.5 clear plastic bag of mixed recycling (plastic bottles and tins) - this was a big win!
2 bags & 2 boxes of cardboard packaging which was removed and put into paper / cardboard recycling. Some boxes were reused.
