Berkeley Economic Review, UC Berkeley’s premier undergraduate economics journal, is now accepting submissions for its Undergraduate Essay Contest! This semester, we have picked a federal-level current event issue that all undergraduate students can write about. We will publish the best submission in the Spring 2023 issue of our magazine!
Our prompt for this semester is: “The Federal Reserve uses indicators like CPI, Core inflation, and the unemployment rate to make decisions about interest rates. These indicators have come under scrutiny recently as some believe they may provide a distorted view of what's currently happening in the economy. Do these indicators provide a good view of the economy, and should the Fed consider new metrics when making decisions about interest rates?”
By writing one of the top responses, you will:
—Have your work published in the Spring 2023 Issue of Equilibrium
—Be recognized on BER’s social media and website
—Receive a cash prize
Write a short essay of up to 750 words to support your claim. If necessary, please cite your sources.
DUE DATE: Friday, December 9th at 11:59 p.m.
Please send your response as a PDF to berkeleyeconreview@gmail.com with the subject line: “F22 UG Essay Contest [Your Name]”
This contest is open to all undergraduate students currently enrolled in an accredited college or university.
