Daniel R. Isbell

Daniel R. Isbell (disbell@hawaii.edu, PhD Second Language Studies, Michigan State University) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Second Language Studies at the University of Hawaii at Manoa where he teaches courses and supervises graduate students in language assessment. A former Fulbright awardee (2018), he is a recipient of a 2022 Jacqueline Ross TOEFL Dissertation Award and the Language Testing 2021 Reviewer of the Year award. Dan is currently an Associate Editor of Language Learning, serves on the editorial boards of Language Testing and TESOL Quarterly, and is co-editing special issues of Research Methods in Applied Linguistics, on research ethics, and Language Testing, on Open Science. His interests in language assessment range from low-stakes diagnostic tests to validating high-stakes speaking assessments to issues of transparency and ethics in assessment research.
