About Us

About Emerald_City iGEM

Emerald_City iGEM is a high school synthetic biology team located in Seattle, Washington. Team Emerald_City competes annually in the iGEM (International Genetically Engineered Machine) Giant Jamboree where they showcase the project that they have been working on. Each year, team designs and develops their own synthetic biology project based on a problem that is currently facing the world. Previously, the team was named SoundBio iGEM.

The SoundBio iGEM team was started in 2017 by then-high schoolers Roya Amini-Naieni and Anna Vasyura (under the name of iTesla-SoundBio) and was spearheaded out of the SoundBio community lab space located in University District in Seattle.

Starting 2020, the SoundBio iGEM team has changed their name to Emerald_City iGEM. The team has consisted of more than thirty students from around nine different high schools across Washington. Additionally, the team works closely with the University of Washington iGEM team and other professionals to advise their projects.
