This Privacy Policy explains how EchoLingo handles data to deliver its features while protecting user privacy. The document is written to be legally clear and also understandable to users who want to know exactly how their information is treated.

EchoLingo does not require account creation and was designed with privacy as a core principle. Unless specifically stated in this document, no personal information is collected, stored, or shared.

1. Information We Do Not Collect

To maintain user privacy, EchoLingo does not collect or access the following categories of data:

1.1. Personally Identifiable Information (PII)

We do not collect information that directly identifies you, such as:

Names
Email addresses
Phone numbers
Any data requiring an account or login

The app operates fully without requiring user registration.

1.2. Precise Location (GPS)

EchoLingo does not request or access your real-time geographic location.
Any approximate location inferred by third-party services (e.g., IP-based analytics) is described later in this Policy.

1.3. Personal Files and Device Content

The app does not access:

Photos
Videos
Contacts
Personal documents
Any files outside the app’s private storage area

If you choose to manually import subtitle files, the app only reads the file you select.

2. Data We Collect and Why

EchoLingo collects a minimal set of information necessary to ensure app functionality, analyze overall usage, and manage Premium subscriptions. This data cannot identify you personally, but it may identify your device or installation in an anonymous way.

2.1. Advertising ID (AD_ID)

We may collect the device’s Advertising ID for:

Basic analytics
Attribution (e.g., understanding how users found the app)
Ensuring correct app operation on the Google Play ecosystem

Important:

This ID is not used for targeted advertising.
We do not track your behavior across other apps or services.

2.2. Installation Identifier (UUID)

EchoLingo generates a random, anonymous identifier when the app is first installed.
This ID allows us to:

Associate analytics events with a single installation
Improve stability and detect usage patterns without identifying any individual user

This identifier cannot be linked to personal information.

2.3. User Feedback and Technical Logs

If you choose to send feedback, the following information is transmitted to Firebase (a Google service) to help us diagnose issues:

Message & Rating: The content you write and the score given.
Technical Metadata: App version, device model, operating system version, and system locale (language).
Contextual Data: Limited contextual information related to the feature or action associated with the feedback.

Retention: This data is stored without connection to any personal identity and is kept as long as necessary to analyze trends and implement app improvements. It is not used for marketing.

3. Subscription and Financial Data

EchoLingo offers optional Premium access. Subscription management follows Google Play Store standards and uses RevenueCat as an intermediary.

3.1. Subscription Status

We store only the essential information required to verify whether a subscription is:

Active
Expired
In trial eligibility

This status is linked exclusively to your anonymous identifiers (AD_ID or UUID).
We do not collect names, emails, or payment credentials.

3.2. Payment Information

EchoLingo does not process, store, or have access to:

Credit card numbers
Billing addresses
Bank details

All payments are handled directly and securely by the Google Play Store.

3.3. Third-Party Handling (RevenueCat)

RevenueCat receives subscription-related metadata to validate entitlements.

EchoLingo does not use this data for advertising or user profiling.

4. Local Data Processing

EchoLingo performs its core features directly on the device. This reduces exposure of personal information and ensures higher privacy.

4.1. Voice Data

For pronunciation practice, EchoLingo utilizes the speech-to-text services integrated into your device's operating system.

Processing: Audio captured for recognition is processed by the system's provider. Depending on your device configuration and language settings, this processing may occur locally or via the system provider’s cloud infrastructure to ensure transcription accuracy.
Data Handling: EchoLingo does not transmit or store audio files on its own servers. We only receive the text output generated by the system to provide feedback.

4.2. Local Storage

EchoLingo stores the following exclusively within the app’s private sandbox:

Learning progress
User settings
Subtitle parsing data
Cached metadata needed for app functionality

These files are not accessible to other apps. Data is retained only as long as the application remains installed. All local data is automatically and permanently deleted when you uninstall EchoLingo or manually clear the app’s data via system settings.

4.3. Local Backup and Portability (Premium Feature)

Premium users may export a local backup file to preserve their data.

This file consists of encrypted application metadata, including learning progress and user-defined preferences.
The backup is generated entirely on the device and is not transmitted to EchoLingo servers. The storage, transfer, and protection of this file are managed exclusively by the user.

4.4. Data Retention

Learning Data: Stored exclusively on your device; deleted upon app uninstallation.
Feedback & Analytics: Anonymized technical data is retained for as long as it serves its purpose of improving EchoLingo’s functionality and stability.

5. Third-Party Services and Operations

We partner with specialized service providers to ensure app stability, analyze aggregate usage, and manage subscriptions. These services may process anonymized device identifiers (such as AD_ID) as part of their operations.

5.1. YouTube API Services

EchoLingo uses YouTube API Services to play video content. By using this feature, you acknowledge that:

You agree to the YouTube Terms of Service.
Your interaction with YouTube content is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
EchoLingo does not access, collect, or store any personal information from your YouTube account.
EchoLingo does not track your viewing history or associate YouTube content consumption with your app installation.

5.2. Analytics and Performance (Optional)

We use industry-standard tools to monitor app stability and understand how the app is used. These tools collect aggregated, non-identifiable data such as:

Interaction patterns and feature usage.
Technical performance data and crash reports.
General device information (model and OS version).

These features are enabled by default but can be managed or disabled at any time in the App Settings. No personal user content or audio data is ever shared with these providers.

6. Device Permissions

The app requests only the minimum permissions essential for its core functionality.

6.1. Microphone

Required for voice recognition features. Audio is passed directly to the system-integrated service and is not retained by EchoLingo.

6.2. Storage

Requested for managing local content, caching, and processing user-initiated backups. EchoLingo only accesses data explicitly related to its own functions or files selected by the user.

7. Children’s Privacy

EchoLingo does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Because the app:

Operates without accounts,
Does not enable user-to-user communication, and
Stores data locally,

it is safe for use by individuals of all ages under parental supervision.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the app or in legal requirements.

Continued use of EchoLingo after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
The “Effective Date” at the top of the document indicates the version currently in force.

9. Global Compliance and Data Rights

EchoLingo is designed with privacy-by-design principles to comply with major data protection regulations worldwide.

9.1. Protection of User Rights

Since the application operates without user accounts and stores most data locally, you exercise your rights over your data through the following methods:

Access and Portability: All your learning progress and settings are stored on your device and can be exported via the "Local Backup" feature (Premium).
Deletion and Rectification: You can permanently delete all data processed by EchoLingo at any time by clearing the application's data in your device settings or by uninstalling the app.
Opt-out of Tracking: You may reset or disable your Advertising ID (AD_ID) through your device's privacy settings to stop providing this identifier to our analytics providers.

9.2. No Sale of Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade any data collected (such as anonymous identifiers) to third parties for monetary or commercial gain. Data sharing is strictly limited to technical service providers (as listed in Section 5) to ensure the application’s stability, analytics, and subscription management.

9.3. Geographic Restrictions and Disclaimer

EchoLingo is not intended for use in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, Switzerland, Russia, China, or any other jurisdiction where specific local data processing requirements (such as GDPR or data localization laws) are not met by this application.

Access Restriction: We reserve the right to implement technical measures, such as IP blocking, to prevent access from these regions.
User Responsibility: If you access EchoLingo from a restricted jurisdiction (including via VPN), you acknowledge that the application is not tailored to the specific legal requirements of that region, and you use the service at your own discretion and risk.

9.4. Governing Language

If any discrepancy exists between translated versions of this Privacy Policy, the Portuguese (Brazil) version shall prevail for interpretation.
