Echoes of Pembroke at the AIA South Championships (2025)
Echoes of Pembroke is a student-led indoor wind ensemble at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke dedicated to musical excellence, community, and growth through the marching arts. As a competitive and educational ensemble, Echoes of Pembroke strives to provide performers with opportunities to develop as musicians, leaders, and collaborators in a supportive and challenging environment. Whether you are a prospective member, parent, community partner, or UNCP employee, Echoes of Pembroke represents the power of student initiative, creativity, and drive for excellence.
Indoor Winds is a relatively new performance activity that combines wind and percussion performance with movement and visual design in an indoor performance environment. Officially recognized by Winter Guard International (WGI) in 2015, Indoor Winds has continued to grow as a distinct extension of the marching arts at the scholastic, independent, and collegiate levels. While Indoor Winds shares elements with marching band, it differs in both setting and approach. Performances take place in a gymnasium or indoor arena rather than on a football field, allowing for greater musical nuance, controlled acoustics, and detailed visual staging. Without the constraints of outdoor performance, Indoor Winds emphasizes musical expression, ensemble balance, and storytelling through sound and movement. Echoes of Pembroke participates in competitive circuits such as Atlantic Indoor (AIA) and WGI, providing members with exposure to the broader indoor performance community.
Echoes of Pembroke serves as a student-led artistic organization dedicated to musical excellence, education, and community engagement through the indoor and marching arts. The ensemble strives to be a resource for students and audiences by providing meaningful performance experiences that encourage creativity, collaboration, and lifelong involvement in music. Echoes of Pembroke fulfills this mission through the performance of diverse and innovative repertoire and a structured rehearsal process that culminates in a competitive season. The ensemble travels throughout eastern North Carolina to perform and compete alongside scholastic and collegiate indoor ensembles within the Atlantic Indoor Association (AIA), contributing to the continued growth and visibility of the activity in the region.
