I am a high impact teahcer because I know mystudents can be sucessfull. I work hard to make sure each student is working towards learning science. I try to create lessons where students are able to have multiple ways to show they understand. As someone who has a learning dissibility I understand the challenges that school can have. Talking about what was challenging for me shows them that I understand what they are going throuhg.
I am always willing to help them out. I have lots of extra supplies they know they can ask for, I have become the number one glasses cleaner and more.
During class I have discussions about how to communicate. I talk about tone, and phraseing. What commen things they say which are interpreted differently by adults then what they mean. I teach them to advoacte for themselves. How to ask a teacher for help and how to ask for what they need. We discuss what a good or bad friend is.
This year I have surved as a mentor to a new science teacher, and for the second year running surved as an unofficeal mentor for a new math teacher. I love to help newer teachers talk trough ideas and shair what I have learned the hard way. I think that providing that support can make or break a news teahcers career. Thought this program I have cultivated a group of supportive teachers. I have used this to create a supportive envirotnment for new teachers.
What I have done most for my mentee, is talk through lessons, provide my lessons, had them push into my class to observe me and pushed into their class to help out. With my unofficial mentee, I often talk through tough situations with her, help give her ideas for perticular students and more.
