We are excited to announce that the Ex Libris Bluegrass User Group (eBUG) annual meeting will be hosted at the University of Kentucky William T. Young Library in Lexington, KY on Friday, June 14, 2024 and a pre-conference meeting will be held on Thursday, June 13.
Our theme for this year is Inclusive Innovation: Bridging Accessibility and Emerging Technologies in Libraries.

Keynote Speaker
Jason Griffey
Jason Griffey is the Director of Strategic Initiatives at NISO, where he works to identify new areas of the information ecosystem where standards expertise is useful and needed. Prior to joining NISO in 2019, Jason ran his own technology consulting company for libraries, has been both an Affiliate at metaLAB and a Fellow and Affiliate at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University, and was an academic librarian in roles ranging from reference and instruction to Head of Library IT and a tenured professor at the University of TN at Chattanooga.
Jason has written extensively on technology and libraries, including multiple books and a series of full-periodical issues on technology topics, most recently a chapter in Library 2035 - Imagining the Next Generation of Libraries by Rowman & Littlefield. His latest full-length work Standards - Essential Knowledge, co-authored with Jeffery Pomerantz, will be published by MIT Press in 2025.
He has spoken internationally on topics such as artificial intelligence & machine learning, the future of technology and libraries, decentralization and the Blockchain, privacy, copyright, and intellectual property. A full list of his publications and presentations can be found on his CV.
He is one of eight winners of the Knight Foundation News Challenge for Libraries for the Measure the Future project (http://measurethefuture.net), an open hardware project designed to provide actionable use metrics for library spaces. He is also the creator and director of The LibraryBox Project (http://librarybox.us), an open source portable digital file distribution system.

"Any Sufficiently Advanced Technology : The future and past of AI and Machine Learning"
Jason Griffey, Director of Strategic Initiatives at NISO
Artificial intelligence and machine learning are somehow simultaneously banal and magical, everyday and marvelous, omnipresent and yet still unusual. In the modern era, the price of computation has fallen so low that we are now inventing entirely new methods of using it, and the continued decrease in cost means that the next 5 years will be an ever-expanding universe of potential new uses for these tools. The major technology leaders are all betting their future heavily on AI, and it is going to be necessary for everyone that interacts with technology and information to understand how these systems work.
This talk will survey the current state of possibilities with AI and Machine Learning tools, explore how we got where we are, and will explore at least one potential future for libraries.

"The Collaborative Work of Community Zone Working Group"

In this presentation, Craig will present a snapshot of the working being done in Community Zone Working Group. He will discuss what is presently being worked on, review knowledge base documentation contributing to the community zone with guidelines, and have an informal discussion about the community zone.

The University of Kentucky (UK) Libraries implemented Article Galaxy Scholar (AGS) in 2023. AGS is an article delivery service provided by Research Solutions/Reprints Desk. The speakers will share information about the setup experience, what they've learned from the data, and how they see this service impacting other areas of UK Libraries.

Some library collections become more visible when creating and using the "Collections" feature of Alma/Primo. Cindy will review how to create and maintain a collection based on collections that she has created at UK Libraries. These collections include Kentucky cookbooks, Mexicana materials, Rare Medical Books, Movable and Toy Books, etc.

"Going with the Flow: Implementing the Purchase Request and Rialto"

This presentation will outline UK Libraries use of the purchase request over the past year and how that led to a decision to move to Rialto as the primary vendor for firm orders.

"Why We Removed "Expand My Results" (And Believe You Should Too)"
Mike Rogers, University of Tennessee
Since August 2022, the University of Tennessee has been on a journey to make discovery more inclusive and less biased. As part of this journey we made a decision to remove "Expand My Results" and default to showing everything available to users, regardless of whether we owned the content in full-text. What we learned from this process was stunning in terms of a better understanding of what users really want from a library search, how indexing differences affect the brief and full results screens, and the impact that poor metadata can have on search results in Primo. Ultimately, we believe the discovery experience now leverages the best of what Primo and CDI offer to provide a much more inclusive and comprehensive search experience. Resource Sharing numbers are through the roof, and (to us) prove that this method is working. Come hear more as we share our experience!

"Acquisitions in Alma : An Overview"

This session is for anybody who is looking to implement Acquisitions, whether as a new colleague in this area, or because they wish to apply acquisitions in their library. This is a broad topic, but I hope to go over the basics, and get a good bird-view of what it means, in Alma. Seasoned librarians are welcome as well, because this discussion can help as a checklist, and also discuss how it all looks from their perspective.
