Interpreter request policy – East Bay AA Deaf Access Committee (EBDAAC)

Purpose

EBDAAC helps coordinate ASL access for in-person Alcoholics Anonymous meetings in the East Bay (Alameda and Contra Costa Counties) for Deaf community members who have a desire to stop drinking and Deaf members of AA.

How to request an ASL interpreter

When requests are open, send your request to DeafEastBayAA@gmail.com

Please request at least 2 weeks (14 days) in advance. Earlier is always better, especially for large meetings, speaker meetings, workshops, or events.

What to include in your request
Include as much of the following as you can so we can schedule appropriately:

Funding and availability

When requests are open, EBDAAC will do its best to schedule interpreters when requested, but interpreter coverage is contingent on funding and interpreter availability. Not all requests can be filled, and substantially short-notice requests may not be possible to staff.

Requests from Meetings and Events

Please note: EBDAAC does not accept interpreter requests directly from individual meetings. However, if you believe your meeting may be a good fit for the Deaf community, or if you have a special event you would like to share, you may email DeafEastBayAA@gmail.com and the committee can discuss your request on a case-by-case basis, contingent on funding and interpreter availability.

Confirmation and updates

Cancellations and changes

If your plans change, please notify us right away so we can release interpreters and protect limited funding for other requests. If the meeting time, location, or format changes, please email updated details immediately.

Confidentiality

We treat requests with care and discretion. We only share the information necessary to coordinate interpreter coverage.
