About Us
The East Bay AA Deaf Access Committee was established in 2023 to support Deaf members in accessing Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Our mission is to provide information about ASL-accessible AA meetings in the East Bay (Western Alameda and Contra Costa Counties) and share national online meetings. We aim to make AA’s program of recovery inclusive and accessible for everyone in the Deaf community.
We are a volunteer-led committee dedicated to advocating for accessibility within AA. Our work is funded through East Bay Intergroup, which has allocated funding for one ASL-interpreted meeting per week, along with interpretation for monthly committee meetings and quarterly intergroup meetings. Our small team works to coordinate these services and ensure they meet the needs of the Deaf AA community.
ASL interpretation is currently provided at designated in-person meetings based on community needs and available funding. We continuously evaluate and adjust our schedule to best serve Deaf AA members seeking accessible recovery spaces.
If you are a Deaf AA member looking for interpreted meetings or have questions about access, we encourage you to reach out.
If you are an AA group looking to provide ongoing ASL access covered by your group and need support finding qualified interpreters, please reach out for tips and support.
