5.28.24 - Lightning V/JV vs Prior Lake
The Lightning JV boys volleyball team swept Prior Lake 25-16-, 25-20 to improve to 20-2 for the season. Sophomore setter Ben Mathews led the team with 21 assists for the night. Then Junior Calvin Weinhaus had 4 kills and hit .500 for the match. Tonight the team caps off it's season at Rosemount with a 7:15 pm match against the Irish.
The Lightning Boys varsity volleyball team rolled over the Lakers from Prior Lake last night, winning 25-13, 25-13, 25-17 to improve their season record to 19-3 and their conference record to 6-2. Junior Outside Hitter Owen Kunisaki led the team from the service line with 4 aces, while sophomores Jay Thammavongsa and Colin Nathan led the offense with 8 kills a piece. Sophomore setter Brice Dehnel dished out 25 assists in the win. The Lightning close the regular season in a conference road battle with the Rosemount Irish tonight before hosting the first round of playoffs next Monday.
Tomorrow night, the Lightning JV2 teams play their final home matches of the season as they host Eden Prairie and Eagan.
5.16.24 - Lightning JV2 League
JV2 Black
The JV2 Black team finished the Shakopee Thursday league season losing the first match to the Shakopee Black team 2-1. They came back strong in the second match against the Eden Prairie Red team winning 2-0. The boys had a lot of fun this year!
JV2 White
The JV2 White team finished the League with a record of 5-3 over the course of 4 weeks. They swept both of their opponents on their final night. Behind some very aggressive serving and much improved serve receive they were able to manage both New Prague and Robbinsdale Cooper in straight sets. The team will conclude their season next week at home (Thursday, May 30) so come on and cheer the teams on in their season ending event!
5.16.24 - Lightning JV2 League
JV2 Blue
JV2 Blue had a great evening beating Shakopee Black and White. Boys look impressive and continue to build on their strengths. Keep playing and motivating your teammates. Go BLUE.
JV2 Black
Week 3 of the JV2 started out strong! We had great serving and team work to take the first match 2-0. The next match was tough and a late surge by the whole team wasn’t enough to beat Shakopee Black team. Our last league night is in May 23rd.
JV2 White
It was a marathon of a night for the JV2 White team and they ended the evening 2-0. They won a very close match with New Prague in three sets. They were also tested against a tenacious Osseo team, and won in another three set battle.
5.11.24 - Lightning JV St Paul Johnson Tournament
The Eastview JV boys won the Johnson JV tournament this past Saturday going 5-0 then continued their great season Tuesday night by beating Burnsville in two, 25-5 and 25-11. The entire team recorded a kill in the match. They are now 26-2 for the season.
5.11.24 - Lightning JV2 Home Tournament
JV2 Blue
The JV2 Blue team went undefeated and won the home tournament. With line-up disruptions and adversity to face, the team was able to put together a performance that beat Coon Rapids in the Championship Match
JV2 Black
The Eastview Boys Volleyball JV2 program had a successful weekend hosting a tournament this past Saturday. JV2 Black finished 2-4 in pool play which put them as 3rd seed for Bronze bracket. The team dug deep and played their best volleyball to win the Bronze bracket.
JV2 White
After going 0-2-1 in Pool Play, the JV2 White team played in tight sets and lost each set by under 5 points. They tied with Elk River which put them in the Consolation Bracket. They lost another close match to STMA.
5.6.24-5.10.24 - Lightning V/JV
This past week the JV volleyball team suffered it's second loss to the strong Shakopee team losing 20-25, 24-26. Ben Mathews led the team in assists as well as kills. Then on Thursday they beat Farmington 2-0. Garret Pasch had 9 kills to lead the Lightning. The team is now 10-2 for the season. The lightning boys, JV volleyball team went 1-1 this week, losing a close match to Shakopee Tuesday night, before hosting Farmington last night. The boys won their battle with the Tigers last night 2-0. The boys pulled out a tight first set win 25–23, Before pulling away in a more convincing, 25-15 second set win.
The varsity boys volleyball crew hosted Shakopee for a battle of undefeated teams Tuesday night. Despite a solid team effort, the Lightning lost 3-1 to the Sabers. Last night, the team hosted the Farmington tigers in South Suburban conference play. The guys fought through a back and forth first set coming out on top 28-26. In the second and third sets, the Lightning found their rhythm and tightened up on defense to pull away 25-19, 25-15. The win moves their conference record to 3-1 and their record on the year to 12-1. JV and varsity head to the St. Paul Johnson tournament this weekend before heading to Burnsville for a key conference match next Tuesday.
5.9.24 - Lightning JV2 League Night
JV2 Blue
JV2 Blue played some really great volleyball, hustling and executing offensively. They beat Roseville Black 24-26, 25-10, 15-8. They lost in a hard fight against Shakopee Black again, 25-14, 21-25, 14-16. Let’s keep getting better.
JV2 Black
The JV2 Black team had a strong performance last night beating Rosemount in the first match 2 sets to 1. The second match versus Eden Prairie Black were hard fought but we lost both sets.
JV2 White
Being moved up to a higher level competition pool proved to be a good test for the team. They lost the first match to Prior Lake Blue in 2 sets. In the second match they lost to Roseville Silver in 3 sets. Playing against strong competition will help them this weekend in the home tournament.
5.7.24 - Lightning Varsity/JV/JV2 Blue vs Shakopee
JV2 Blue had some stretches of very good volleyball. They couldn’t overcome from some of there compounding mistakes and lost to Shakopee Black, 22-25, 24-26. Keep your heads. Keep your heads up boys. We see them again on Thursday.
Tuesday night, May 7 is Fan Appreciation night at the Lightning boys varsity volleyball match and there’s a lot going on besides a great match up between undefeated teams!

5.2.24 - Lightning JV2 League Night
JV2 Blue
JV2 Blue is off to a good start. They capitalized by winning both of there games. First match was against Shakopee Red with a score of 25-16 and 25-23. Everyone got a chance to play different positions. Utilizing the skills they’ve been learning. They won the second match in three sets against Eden Prairie Black with a score of 20-25, 25-18 and 15-13. This was a tough match but the boys prevailed when they needed it the most. Everyone got to see the court in almost all of the sets which is a great morale booster. They are learning to overcome their mistakes and be a better volleyball player.
JV2 Black
The JV2 Black team came into their first match last night with a nice dose of confedence! But the Shakopee Black team had other ideas. They had very good servers and we just couldn’t get a good run of offense. We started coming back in the second set but fell short. Shakopee Black won both sets. For the next match, JV2 Black figured out some adjustments that were needed and had a positive attitude going into the second match. Their tenacity for success was evident in better passing and serving. Unfortunately, the Shakopee JV team (filling in for a team who cancelled) had a bit more finesse and beat the JV2 Black team in two sets. We hope to learn from these matches and practice hard for the matches next week.
JV2 White
JV2 White went 1-1 on the night. They dropped a close 3 set match against Prior Lake Gold and then rebounded to beat Eden Prairie Red in 3 sets. The team is continuing to improve their serving and serve receive. There was no shortage of hustle plays and are becoming more aggressive on offense.
4.30.24 - Lightning Varsity JV and Varsity vs Apple Valley
The Lightning Varsity boys volleyball team extended their undefeated start to the season to 11 wins with a 3-0 victory over Apple Valley last night. After winning two tight sets 25-23, 25-22 in the first two, the team used smart attacking and solid serving to blow open the 3rd set. The team’s next battle is against the also undefeated Shakopee Sabers next Tuesday, May 7 at home.
4.24.24 - Lightning Varsity JV and Varsity vs. Roseville
The 4-1 Eastview JV volleyball team had another strong performance against Roseville, winning in 2 sets, 24-13, 25-12. Sophomore outside hitter, Garrett Pasch led the team with 9 points; 7 kills and 2 aces. Saturday the team will partake in the Apple Valley tournament. Hopefully with their eye on the prize on winning the tournament and taking revenge on St Paul North (the only team to beat them this year).
4.15.24 - Lightning Varsity JV and Varsity home opener vs. Hopkins/SLP
The Lightning Boys JV volleyball team rolled over Hopkins Monday night, winning in straight sets. The team used tough serving and good defense to lock up with win, with scores of 25-8, 25-10.
The varsity squad came back from trailing two sets to none to win the non-conference battle with Hopkins in 5 sets. The boys started fast, but ended up losing the first set 23-25. Hopkins controlled the momentum in the second set, cruising to a 25-18 win. The Lightning steadied the ship in the 3rd set behind solid serving and good team defense at the net and in the back row, winning 25-19. The fourth set saw the lightning get ahead in the early stages and never relinquish the lead despite some short runs by the Royals. The boys won the 4th set 25-21. In the 5th and deciding set, the Lightning jumped to a lead with an ace and a great defensive rally, and never looked back, winning 15-6. Junior defensive specialist Will Fulford provided a spark from the service line and some key defensive plays to help the Bolts change the momentum in the 2nd and 3rd sets. Sophomore Libero Aiden Wilson and sophomore outside hitter Jay Thammavongsa also made several key plays for the team throughout the night.
The win moves the varsity record to 2-0 on the season heading into another non-conference battle in Austin this Thursday night. The next Lightning home match is Monday, April 22 when the team hosts Lakeville South.
4.8.24 - Lightning Varsity JV and Varsity open the season at North St. Paul
The Lightning Boys JV volleyball team lost in 3 last night to North St Paul. In a back and forth match the Lightning couldn't prevail in the decisive third match to a very good opponent. The team was led by strong performance from sophomore setter Ben Mathews who had 22 assists. Sophomore middle Alex Kalaus led the team with 6 kills and senior outside Wyatt had a team high 3 aces.
Your Lightning Boys varsity volleyball team went on the road to North St. Paul cruising to a 3-0 victory in a fun match to open regular season play last night. Junior outside hitter Owen Kunisaki led the team on offense with a career high 18 kills, and 94% from the service line. Sophomore setter Brice Dehnel put in a solid performance guiding the offense well, posting 30 assists on the night.
The team plays again next Monday, hosting Hopkins for the home opener...JV plays at 6pm, varsity to follow at 7:15.
