What will the project scope include?
- Addition: Approximately 28,000 square feet of new space featuring a competition-size gymnasium, community fitness area, band and music room, restrooms, expanded locker rooms, and support spaces.
- Renovation: Approximately 3,000 square feet of improvements to the existing facility, including a new connection to the addition, relocation of the nurse’s office, and renovation of the wrestling room.
- Site Work: Improvements include a new parking lot, paved basketball court, and green space east of the school. A new bus lane and additional parking will be added south and west of the addition, along with associated landscaping and hardscape features.

Funding for this $14,500,000 project will come from the District’s Social Building Fund, which currently has sufficient reserves to support the planned improvements. There will be no levy increase or additional impact to taxpayers. Funding of this project is supported through the current tax structure.

Student and staff safety are the top priority in this project. Safety will be upheld through secure fencing, designated barriers, and clearly marked signage around active construction areas. Regular communication will provide updates on building access, helping everyone stay informed and prepared.

How does any of this benefit academic performance?
The school currently has a teacher teaching in areas that are not conducive to learning. The teacher is teaching in multiple locations - commons, gym, stage, etc. The weight room does not adequately fit the class size required. These classes are part of a student's GPA and state standards for graduation.

The village has passsed an ordinance to vacate the street - which was finalized at their regular February board meeting. The district approached the village of Brainard in November of 2025 to discuss vacating Garfield Street.
