During Morgan Le Fay’s final assault on the faltering Kingdom of Camelot, the wizard Merlin, desperate to prevent total ruin, summoned his diabolical half-brother, Etrigan, from Hell to join the fight. To bind the demon to the mortal plane, Merlin anchored Etrigan’s essence to a summoning mask, entrusted to a peasant willing to sacrifice himself for his people—Jason.

This act turned Jason into the unwilling host of Etrigan. The demon’s ferocity halted Morgana’s forces, sealing the war’s fate. But when Jason regained consciousness, he was confronted by the massacre of his family, the terrible price for victory.

The Eternal Pact

From that moment, Jason and Etrigan were inseparable. Etrigan roamed the world, spreading chaos, carnage, and conquest, while Jason reaped power, wealth, and the twisted fortune that came from their shared existence.

Through the centuries, they fought in the Crusades, joined the Norse in battle, betrayed kings, claimed kingdoms, invaded America, and ravaged lands—all in service of Hell’s influence. Etrigan’s appetite for violence and souls was insatiable, condemning countless victims to eternal damnation.

The Pact with Lucifer

By 1917, during the First World War, Etrigan’s bloodlust reached new heights. He summoned a legion of demons that massacred the German army in an act so devastating it drew Lucifer’s personal attention. The disagreement between Jason and Etrigan over control became so great that Jason struck a deal with the Morning Star himself—one that would bind Etrigan to his will for eternity. Lucifer, grateful for Jason’s centuries of service to Hell, agreed.

Dark League

Nearly 90 years later, Jason Blood was living in a macabre mansion on the desert of Death Valley, keeping his distance from the supernatural wars of the modern age. That changed when Zatanna Zatara and John Constantine arrived, warning him of the coming Great Darkness—a threat so immense it required Hell’s own champion. Though initially resistant, Jason eventually agreed to summon Etrigan once again, acknowledging that Hell, too, needed a protector in the looming battle of dark forces.
