This video demonstrates how to model use of a Core Vocabulary board when playing with PlayDoh.
Have child open to the body parts page on their communication device, have them tell you what body parts to put on Mr. Potato Head
Have child open to the color and/or shapes page in their communication device, have them tell you what to draw
Have child open to the action page in their communication device and have them tell you what to do. Jump. Walk. Stomp!
Have child go to toy page or kitchen page and have them tell you some objects you should find in your house. They can also go to the colors page and have you find items that are certain colors.
Have child open to the places page in their communication device and have them tell you rooms in your house that you should go
Have child go to their clothing page and have them tell you what clothes to put on (on top of your other clothes of course!) or what clothes to put on a doll
Have child go to animal page in their communication device and have them tell you what animal to act out
Have child go to food page in their communication device, have them ask if you have certain food in your fridge. Make it a scavenger hunt of sorts!
Have child go to prepositions page (in, on, out, off, etc) and have them tell you where to put blocks, cars or other play materials
The following activities may include specific vocabulary targets
Have child direct your vehicle play by telling you to make care go up/down, fast/slow, in/out of a tunnel, or whether you should use a big/little car.
Have child direct block building by choosing the color of blocks, big/little, on/out and then to say "go" when you knock it down
Have child choose colors of marble maze pieces and use numbers to choose how many marbles to put down maze, as well as words "down" and "go" for you to put marbles down track
Have child choose color of balloon, big/little, more/all done, and "go" for when to let balloon fly
Have child choose song to play, then use stop/go to make you freeze.
Have a mystery item in a bag. Child uses -wh questions to get information about the item (what, who, how, etc)
