Decide what you want to be!
Once upon a time, there lived a child, same as you, who had all the qualities of becoming a leader. Although she was average in school studies, she had an excellent knowledge of ‘why’ of many things. Her curious nature would often urge her to enquire about how things work in real life. Many a time, people around her used to get irritated because of her habit of asking many questions. However, she never stopped herself from learning about new things. She would indulge herself in acquiring new skills and having new experiences all the time.
When most of her friends would get busy on Social Media, on Netflix, or playing online games, she would visit a nearby village along with her father to solve some of the many problems faced by the residents of the village. Her regular visits to this village made her realize, at this early age, that life is different for every people and the privileges that she had by birth are a distant dream for many.
Initially, she would get very sad looking at the miseries of the villagers but later she started to come up with ideas to solve those problems. Her father supported her, even though she had many failed attempts before she got the right solution, in implementing those ideas on the ground and giving a better lifestyle to the people there. Villagers started to like her as she helped them with many unique solutions to ease their day-to-day activities, be it in farming, transportation, education, or sanitation.
In one such incident, she collected hundreds of plastic bottles from the garbage pile at the village dumping ground to design a vertical (hanging bottle) garden at the village school, thereby reducing the garbage and the negative environmental effect due to it. Later she educated the villagers about the harmful environmental effects of using plastics in our lifestyle.
This was the first problem-solving incident that she experienced in her life. This gave her a tremendous boost of confidence in trying out her ideas and keep on improving on failed attempts until she achieved success. She continued looking for problems in society and designing solutions for the same. Soon, everyone started to respect her because of her display of skills – skills that she acquired when she started doing this.
Currently, she is the CEO of one of the startups focusing on providing sustainable development solutions and uplifting the quality of life of people living in urban slums and rural India.
What did we learn here?
Always be curious to learn and try new things.
There is no right age to start anything. You can start just right now.
Problems can be found anywhere. One just needs to have an eye to detect those problems & have a strong dedication to solve them.
One should never be afraid to try, fail, try, fail until one achieves success.
A Leader always starts early and starts by differentiating oneself from others.
