Congratulations and Welcome to the Professional Program in Teacher Education!
You did it—you’ve cleared your first big hurdle: program entry! 🎉 You're officially on your way to becoming a certified teacher and earning your degree. That’s no small feat, and we’re so excited to have you on this journey.
Over the next few semesters, you’ll dive into field placements that will give you a front-row seat to the magic of the classroom. Each experience is designed to help you grow, learn, and get inspired for your own future classroom. From different schools to diverse teaching styles, you’ll get a taste of it all!
The grand finale of your program? The student teaching internship—your time to shine as a full-time teacher. But don’t worry, you won’t be doing this alone. The Office of Clinical Experiences is here to support you every step of the way.
To make the most of your journey, be sure to explore the resources on this site. Your handbook will be your trusty sidekick—refer to it often! And when questions pop up (because they will), don’t hesitate to reach out.

Step 2 - Complete the Affirmation of the Guide to Clinical Placements.
This lets us know you have read the handbook and understand the contents.

Step 3 - Complete the Background Questions and Disclosure Form
We have important agreements with our School Partners that indicate we won't send students into their schools without a background check. You submitted a SLED check with your program application, but we need to ask a few background questions before you start your field experience.

Step 5 - How do I document my attendance?
It is almost time to get started with your field experience. Soon you will receive an email that notifies you of the school and teacher you will be assigned to.
Documenting your hours in the schools is very important. We use an online system called Anthology/Chalk and Wire to collect these hours. You need to complete your hours EACH WEEK and have your Cooperating Teacher verify your time. Here is some information to help you understand this online system.

KEY ASSESSMENTS
Throughout your time in the program you will complete important assessments. Here is a chart that explains all of these key assessments that ALL education students will complete.

Your teaching will improve with practice. The more you teach and receive important critical feedback, the better you will become! Throughout your time in the program you will have formal observations using the SCTS 4.0 Rubric. Here is a chart that explains these observations and when they will occur.

Here is a link to all of the forms you will see during your field experiences. It is important that you read these forms and understand what is being assessed. You will also find templates for writing lesson plans for your program.
Don't worry, your faculty will also do an EXCELLENT job preparing you for your observations.
