In honor of Lingthusiasm's Fall 2026 Linguistic Zine Challenge, Coloring Green Ideas has been diminutivized in 3 volumes!
Check out Lingthusiasm's guide for printing and folding your own mini zines.
Volume 1 focuses on championing linguistic diversity and combating harmful language myths. Everyone can enjoy it!
Volume 2 focuses on jokes, puns, or references to spoken language phonetics and phonology. It requires the most background of the three volumes.
Volume 3 focuses on more general linguistics-related references. It's good for people with an introductory-level familiarity with linguistics.
Here is a combined PDF of all 3.
The best paper is thicker than typical copy paper but thinner than cardstock.
I had the best luck with 32lb "premium copy paper."
Copy paper is too thin to stand up well to markers. The ink may bleed through or make the paper soggy.
Cardstock is too thick to fold nicely and evenly.
I recommend colored pencils, pens, or fine tipped markers for coloring.
Some "compartments" are on the smaller side, and coloring with a broad tip like crayons may be frustrating.
For a crisp zine, crease sharply at every stage.
I use a tool called a bone folder, but a credit card or the back of your scissors will work too.
There is no generative ai used in my work.
