FIRST Robotics
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded in 1989 to inspire young people's interest and participation in science and technology.
FIRST is #morethanrobots. FIRST participation is proven to encourage students to pursue education and careers in STEM-related fields, inspire them to become leaders and innovators, and enhance their 21st century work-life skills.
In REEFSCAPE, teams will use their engineering skills to strengthen one of the ocean’s most diverse habitats and make waves to build a better world. Two competing Alliances will score coral, harvest algae, and attach to the barge before time runs out, and Alliances earn additional rewards for meeting specific scoring thresholds and for cooperating with their opponents.
In CRESCENDO presented by Haas, FIRST© Robotics Competition teams will use their STEM skills and creative power to turn up the volume as they design, build, and program their robots for action-packed game play. Teams score "notes" into their designated speakers and amps before taking their skills to the main stage.
The game CHARGED UP is themed around two alliances of three teams each who compete to bring energy to their community. Robots retrieve cones and cubes from substations, score them on the grid, and balance themselves on the charge station.
RAPID REACT is the game for the 2022 FIRST Robotics Competition. The game is themed around transportation and involves two alliances consisting of three teams each competing to perform various tasks, including shooting balls known as Cargo into high and low hubs, and hanging on a series of rungs at the end of the match.
DESTINATION: DEEP SPACE involves two alliances of three teams each competing to place hatch covers and rubber balls or “cargo” on rockets and cargo ships before returning to their hab platform to climb at the end of the match.
In FIRST POWER UP, the game is played by two alliances of three teams each. Their robots compete on a field by placing milk crates which represent power cubes on large balancing scales in order to tip the scales and gain ownership. Alliances can also trade power cubes in for temporary advantages called power ups. At the end of the match, robots can climb or assist a partner in climbing the tower attached to the balancing scale, located on the center of the field, using a rung attached to the tower for additional points.
The game FIRST STEAMWORKS is played by two alliances of three teams each. Their robots compete on a field by scoring wiffleballs which represent fuel into a simulated boiler which transfers the generated steam into an airship in the middle of the field. Each alliance has one airship, which they pressurize with steam from the boiler and load with plastic gears from the field. At the end of the match, robots can hang on team-supplied ropes attached to the airship for additional points.
