Our main goal is to provide faculty professional development through intensive workshops, sustained interactions, formative assessment, and support materials to dramatically improve students' statistical education. We are aiming for substantial impact on instruction in the art and practice of statistical thinking, aligned with the American Statistical Association's Guidelines for Assessment and Instruction in Statistics Education (GAISE) and current research on teaching and learning in statistics.
We are regularly offering instructor-facing workshops using a mix of in-person and virtual approaches. Participating instructors interact and collaborate via social media, blog/discussion board opportunities, and office hours. We are also developing freely-available materials (including instructor-facing videos, platform-independent applets, and other multi-media supports) for instructors to use in their classrooms. Efforts are particularly focused on reaching instructors and students with a broad selection of skills and backgrounds, to expand the diversity of students developing their conceptual understanding of statistics.
