What is mobilizing?
Mobilizing is how we build power. In order to win our contract, and later to hold the company accountable to that contract, we mobilize our members to show solidarity in order to put pressure on management. Mobilizing can take many forms, but the ultimate goal is to show management and each other that we are united behind our contract demands.
How do we mobilize?
Wearing red on Thursdays
Every Thursday, CWA workers all over the country wear red to show their unity and solidarity to each other. This tradition started in 1989 when a Chief Steward from Local 1103 was struck and killed by a scab's car while on strike, and has grown to be one of CWA's most recognizable traditions. Every Thursday, our members wear red to show our support for our contract, and we always encourage members who are wearing red to turn their cameras on in remote meetings (even for just a moment). If you wear red on Thursday, be sure to drop a selfie in the #members channel of our Slack!

Changing our Slack icons
On Thursdays (and bargaining days) we ask our members to change their Slack status to include the :cwa-strong: icon. Since we're all on Slack all day, the status icons are a very visible symbol of our numbers and our presence in the company. It's a little change but management definitely notices!
