What is a local? And which CWA local am I a part of?

CWA International is made up of lots of smaller local union chapters around the US and Canada. Every CWA member belongs to a local union that is primarily who they will interact with for most union-related things. Each local union has its own bylaws and elected local union leadership, as well as a unique history that informs what it looks like today.

All of us at EveryAction will bargain as one bargaining unit. But we also will be in three different CWA locals so we can connect with people nearby. Our CWA locals will be where we can get more involved in local activities, reach out for representation once our contract is in place, and participate in our union.

Here are the 3 CWA Locals we will be part of:

CWA Local 1400 - Sommerville office and remote staff*

CWA Local 13000 - Wexford PA office

*Remote staff are in CWA Local 1400 unless they work primarily with the offices in DC or Wexford and are officially assigned to those offices by EveryAction HR.

Dues for CWA are $1-2 per hundred dollars on base pay. No dues on overtime or bonuses. The dues vary slightly between locals. Dues for CWA Local 2336 are 1.3%. Local 1400 are 1.6%. And Local 13000 dues are 1.45%.
