(12/17/20) Hello! My name is Emily Maker and I am a sophomore currently in the Public Leadership scholars program at the University of Maryland. Since high school I have always been interested in leadership positions and helping others. In high school I held a few leadership positions in both sports and clubs but here in the scholars program I have learned how to apply my leadership skills more professionally. In the Public Leadership program here at UMD I have learned to channel my leadership skills into what I am really passionate about, which is the environment and creating policy that will help it. For this reason, I have loved every aspect of the public policy program as I can apply it to my major. I have learned about non-profits, the history of leadership, and many different kinds of leadership skills that I know will help me in my future career. Furthermore, I have met so many new and unique people, especially my professors, from different backgrounds that have helped me aquire new leadership skills. I can't wait to finish the scholars progam and be sent into a professional setting with an array of leadership skills and tactics that I have learned from Public Leadership.
