ON CALEB'S SECOND BIRTHDAY
Lookin down the road I see…
O Lord must I tell?
Lookin down the road I see
A pure and living hell.
Lookin down the road I see –
O can’t I just be blind?
Lookin’ down the road I see
There’s not much good to find.
Nothin but the love you’ve shown me
Nothin but the love you’ve shown to me.
Lookin at my son turn two
There’s new words I hear
Lookin at his future, well
Let’s just say I fear
Lookin at the world around
Run by little boys
Playn with their guns and bombs
There’ll be nothing left but noise.
Nothin but the love you’ve shown me
Nothin but the love you’ve shown to me.
Lookin down the road I know
There’ll be a sweet release
Lookin down the road I see
A never ending peace.
And as I watched this earth made new
I looked from where it came
I saw you hangin on a tree
With nothing left but pain
Nothin but the love you’ve shown me
Nothin but the love you’ve shown to me.

Welcome Home
When my boy had an accident with my car
I got dented, from afar.
Anger, deductibles, hassle, rust;
Who does body work I can trust?
The once lovely lines of my sedan
Can be untwisted by a master hand.
But what of this messy pride filled wreck,
The metal log I call a speck?
My carport's sheltered many steeds
Fulfilling many transportation needs
Their junkyard fate, will it be mine?
Old model replaced by a new design?
New paint, new bumper, it looks so good
But the same engine's still under the hood.
I'd be driven insane without the flood
That renews my soul: He shed His blood.
Written about a year before my son wrecked our car
