E-Care is a project put in place to promote gender equality and equity by empowering young girls between the ages of 12-25 years with knowledge, attitudes and practices primarily targeting Menstrual Hygiene, Female Hygiene and Sexual Based Voilence and also training them become women of outstanding character and behaviour in our society. We seek to build in young girls outstanding female leaders like Zoneziwoh Mbondgulo-Wondieh- Founder of the NGO Women for a Change, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf- Former President of Liberia; Damilola Odufuwa and Odunayo Eweniyi- Female Coalition founders, Meaza Ashenafi- First female Chief Justice of Ethiopia ; Angele Makombo- President, League of Congolese Democrats; Aja Fatouma Tambjang, Former Vice President of Gambia and Amina J Mohamed- United Nations Deputy Secretary-General.

HYPOTHESIS:
Knowledge:
Most young girls don’t have knowledge about puberty, menstruation and how to manage periods hygienically.
Attitude:
Most girls feel ashamed about their period, due to either incorrect beliefs about menstruation, majority experience a number of myths, taboos and restrictions. Girls hesitate to talk to mothers, peers and teachers openly for fear of the unknown.
Practices:
Most girls aren’t prepared for their first and subsequent menstruation and struggle to manage bleeding and pain.
Short termed goals:
Girls being more educated (knowledge acquisition).
Girls have more positive attitudes towards periods
Girls are more engage in supporting each other.
Girls are more aware of their rights and impact in the socio-economic development of the world.
Long-termed changes:
Improved health and well being.
Improved school attendance.
Improved adolescent education and gender equality.
PROBLEMS ENCOUTERED BY YOUNG GIRLS
WHICH HINDERS FEMALE HYGIENE:
Affordability and Access to adequate and private WASH. facilites at schools, home including safe and proper disposal and management.
Access to pain medication and medical counselling.
Socio-cultural beliefs (especially religious backgrounds).
Girls don’t encourage each other due to lack of knowledge and counselling.
Lack of self-efficacy: ability and motivation to practice the right behaviour for example correct disposal of hygienic wipers.
Girls are thought the biological process of menstruation but beyond that, girls don’t receive the vital information about the topic.
