Getting close to exams? We will find what you most need to work on, review and practise critical areas, devise a revision plan and consider exam technique for the best marks
If you have been ill or absent for whatever reason, or been inattentive in class, and realise you have fallen behind, we will work on the areas you have missed to make sure they are secure
If you find lessons go just that bit too fast, and you need time to reflect and make sure you understood we can go through on a weekly basis
If you find lessons frustrating, because you keep wanting more at the end we can go a bit deeper and broaden to expand your knowledge and understanding
Not quite performing at the grade you want? We can tweak things to get that little extra boost
Overwhelmed by how much you have to remember? Feeling short of time? We will work to prioritise your revision and find strategies to help you focus
You are probably better at maths than you think. Maths confidence is easily dented by a thoughtless remark, being placed in the wrong set, an unsympathetic teacher. I will help you to grow your confidence alongside your skills, until, eventually you will learn maths with ease, unhampered by negative thoughts
This all made sense in class when the teacher did it, but now I'm on my own I can't make head nor tail of it. We learn maths by doing it, and sometimes you need stabilisers for those first few bits of doing, like you probably did when you learned to ride a bike. We will work together to make sure by the time you are finished you are really understanding. Note, this is not a "let me do your homework for a fee" service. This is using your homework as a learning tool.
Going from GCSE to A-level, switching from foundation to higher maths, or moving from double to triple science can all be daunting. Working together we will make sure you face these transitions with confidence
Summer holidays are great, but it can be dispiriting to realise how much you've forgotten during those weeks away. Maybe a light touch of tuition and revision will mean you go back to the new academic year all ready to start the next stage
So, you're given a sum and you can do it fine. But then you get a word problem, and have no idea how to translate it into maths. We can look at strategies for working out what you know, what you need to find out and how to get from one to the other.
This is traditional tutoring. We will meet at an agreed time every week, to go through a lesson on an agreed topic. This will include teaching, practice examples, and where appropriate internet resources and videos. The notes made in the lesson will be available to you online afterwards. This is available for individual students or up to three in a single session at a supplement of £10 per additional student.
This is a more ad hoc service, which could be used after a fully tutored plan until you have the confidence to go it alone, while revising when a subject suddenly doesn't make sense, or if you feel you need occasional focussed support rather than regular tutoring. You will buy minutes which can be booked just a short time in advance (as long as it is a time we can both manage) to go through specific problems in a very focussed way, or you send me a written question by email which I will respond to. This will take as long as it takes, and you will pay only for the minutes used, whether it is five minutes or a full hour. Again, you will have access to any notes we make after the lesson. This can cater for between one and five students, at a supplement of £1 per student per ten minutes of study.
This plan involves no direct tutoring. We will have an initial meeting to agree your aims, and regular follow up meetings. I will then supply a guided study plan using internet resources such as Khan Academy, YouTube, Maths is Fun, and Physics Classroom for you to study independently.
