Hello. My name is Kim. Dr Kim Dyos in full, but I'd like you to call me Kim.
How did I become a maths tutor?
At school I loved maths, sciences and music. After my A-levels I went to Oxford University to study Metallurgy and Science of Materials. After obtaining my degree I moved to Imperial College London for my PhD, studying aluminium matrix composites, mostly using electron microscopy. After this I still had the research bug and went to work for the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency, the research arm of MoD, still studying various materials. This job took me to various roles, including assistant to the Chief Scientist, a secondment to the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and eventually into Export Controls for technology.
However, I missed maths and science. I also missed teaching - throughout my career my favourite times had been working with students working either with us or in their own institutions. Even at school, I enjoyed teaching music to younger students. So, I decided teaching was the way to go. I took a job teaching maths in the Engineering Department at my local Further Engineering College. Although my qualifications are science rather than maths, I believe this makes me even stronger as a maths teacher, as I understand those who don't see maths as easy, or even, in many cases very interesting, but as a necessity to get through life.
After many years teaching in the college it was time for a shake up. So I set up Dyos Maths, tutoring tailored for you, using my years of experience in maths science and teaching. And now here I am, ready to work with you and grow your skills, knowledge and confidence.
