We primarily work with family/pet dog training for basic obedience and behavior modification. We work with dogs of all breeds, sizes, and ages.
We believe in using a balanced method of training that involves providing clear instructions, rules, and boundaries with your dog. This means that we believe in providing rewards (praise, affection, food) for behaviors we like and corrections when necessary for dangerous behaviors or ignoring known commands. This simple concept of teaching the difference between yes and no leads to a calm, well-balanced dog that is enjoyable to live with!
We believe there is not a "one size fits all" tool for dog training. We use a variety of different tools depending on the needs of each individual dog. Some tools that we use are: Herm Sprenger prong collars, Starmark plastic training collars, E-Collars, slip leads & long lines. We do not believe in using harnesses or head halters. Your trainer will provide a recommendation on the appropriate training equipment for your dog at the evaluation.
In order for us to be a good fit for each other, you must understand our training philosophy and be willing to put in the work to make a lifestyle change for your dog. You need to be comfortable using the tools and methods that we teach you during training if you wish to have long-term success with your dog.
If your dog has ANY behavioral issues: jumping, counter surfing, barking, whining, pulling, biting, aggression, fear/anxiety, nervousness, etc., you need to recognize that there’s a problem. The way your dog views you and your relationship is contributing to this problem. We are here to help you recognize what needs to change and how to change it! This has to be a team effort by all involved. We are ready to do whatever it takes to help your family become successful, but you need to make that same commitment to your dog.
With dogs that have behavioral issues (especially aggression, anxiety, or fear issues), we ask clients to stop coddling and doting on their dog. Affection is a dog’s most valuable reward. Giving constant verbal, physical, and food praise rewards whatever behavior your dog is currently doing. Once your dog behaves in a calm, respectful, and polite manner and understands what is expected of them, they should be rewarded with affection. We might also ask you to restrict furniture privileges and ask that your dog begin sleeping in a crate at night.
We are looking for clients who are going to follow through with all of the homework sent. Your follow-through at home is imperative to the success of your dog’s training.
Dog Training is a Team Effort! We cannot stress enough how important it is that every family member who comes into contact with the dog must be on the same page in regards to its training, rules, structure, rewards, and discipline. Any slack or overindulgence in any one of these areas will lead to inconsistency and confusion. When one family member is soft and leans towards permissiveness, and the other is quick to correct, the dog is left confused, not really clear on how to make good choices. It is imperative that all members of the family are are the same page so the dog has a clear understanding of what is expected from them.
Dog training typically requires a lifestyle change to reach your goals. Our goal is for you and your entire family to benefit from our experience together. We want you to have a calm, well-balanced member of your family that is enjoyable and can go anywhere with you!
Due to the many variables involved in creating a well-balanced, well-behaved dog, including owner commitment, consistency, and follow-through, it would be impossible to offer a 100% guarantee. However, we are committed to your success and that of your dog. We are willing to help in any way to assist you in reaching your goals. If you are committed and putting in the work required, we believe you will see the results you are looking for.
The difference in private lessons vs a day train should be determined based on you and your lifestyle. Private lessons are a great choice for owners who have the time and ability to be consistent and follow through on the homework provided during each lesson.
On the other hand, day training works well for owners who do not have as much time to do the "heavy lifting" of working with their dog each day, but are willing and able to maintain the training and follow through with the foundations laid by the trainer.
Minor behavioral issues can be solved in either program, but more severe behavioral issues usually require a board and train.
Still not sure? Fill out our contact form, and we will go through both options with you and recommend which program is the best fit for you, your dog and your lifestyle.
